Learn the Concept of How An Airplane Turns
With the banking of the wings, the aircraft make their turns possible, which can be done with the banking of the wings in the desired direction at a particular angle, which is referred to as bank angle.

Types of Aircraft Turn
There are three aircraft turns, which are categorized as follows:
  • Shallow Turn: When the bank angle is less than 20 degrees, the turn of the airplane is categorized as Shallow Turn.
  • Medium Turn: If the bank angle ranges between 20 to 45 degrees, the turn comes into the Medium Turn Category.
  • Steep Turn: When the turn is more than 45 degrees, it comes under the category of Steep Turn.
How to Turn the Aircraft In A Better Way?

Turning an aircraft is made possible with the following steps as mentioned below:
  • There are four possible controls available, which are used in a coordinated manner to turn an aircraft.
  • These 4 controls are named as ailerons, throttle, elevator and rudde.
  • Ailerons, which are rectangular flaps, are present at the back of the wing and are used to initiate the turn. You are required to bank the plane towards the right through the control column. The aileron present at the left side goes down, while the one present towards the right goes upwards. As soon as the left side goes down it creates more lift and thus the plane rolls towards the right.
  • Now, the banked position of the aircraft is maintained either through the control column or through autopilot facility and in this way, the plane keeps its turn towards the right. 
  • The elevator, the second control is used to maintain the altitude during the turn.
  • The rudder, which is the third element in the proper coordination while turning an aircraft, is used to coordinate the movement of the aircraft nose.
  • The throttle is the last piece of the puzzle in the entire process of turning, which is used to either increase or decrease the thrust. This thrust is responsible for affecting the radius of the aircraft turn
Always keep one thing in mind that the accurate control over all the four controls is utmost needed to successfully turn an aircraft. Any lapse in concentration in controlling either of them can result in unbalance status of the airplane.
